Did I take the right decision by joining VESIM? I thought to myself as I exited the campus after the admission formalities were completed. There was indeed a different aura radiating from the institute. The campus was huge and had a calm atmosphere; just the kind of atmosphere I was looking for in an institute.
In the days that followed, I started making a connection with the atmosphere of the college. The Indian culture maintained in the college made me feel at home instantly. Since our college is also our second home I found it to be a good thing. Even the classrooms in VESIM are named after names associated with our ancient history.
It all started with an induction program followed by an outbound program to RMP Bhayander where the students had to play management related games. There was a professional yet friendly environment maintained by the faculty which made it the perfect start to our new lives. We learnt a lot in those few days and we had a lot more to learn in the upcoming 2 years.
VESIM’s focus on soft skills and inculcation of values was enough to convince me that this is the perfect atmosphere for growth. While there is a highly competitive environment among students in other colleges, the belief that everyone should help others grow hand in hand and climb the corporate ladder is what sets VESIM apart. There are also various committees in the college where students can join and learn through practical experience. The fact that the cells are managed by students where faculties act as mentors makes the atmosphere even more growth-friendly.
VESIM also has a new initiative called Guru-Shishya parampara where students are assigned mentors who they can approach for any doubt they have. This enhances the atmosphere making even the most reserved of people comfortable in the institute. The fact that students can approach other mentors also makes learning a more comfortable experience.
There are many seminars arranged by the college where professionals are called to share their first-hand experience about the corporate world. With the learning gained by these professionals, the students are better prepared to take on challenges in the corporate world. It is also worth mentioning that VESIM has also started a new initiative known as VBx talks which inspires students to grow to new heights and also teaches us that nothing is impossible.
Out of the many activities given, one activity involved selling of bags made by women from NGO’s. This activity not only taught us the art of selling, but also how important team work is. It also taught us to be helpful towards everyone. VESIM also organises a program called Yuva for Sena where students have to work with NGO’s for 2 weeks. While this adds up to the learning factor, this also teaches us the importance of service towards people and makes us better human beings.
In the end, VESIM does not just train us to be management professionals, but also to be better human beings. There was a question running in my mind in my initial days; Can VESIM provide me atmosphere, an environment, needed for overall growth into a management professional? In the following weeks I got my answer. I did not only find my answer but a lot more. VESIM did not only provide me an environment to be a successful management professional… but also made me find what I truly am.
